E.J. Hoyt Named New Newington Fire Chief
NEWINGTON — The Newington Fire Department is announcing the command of a new Fire Chief.
With more than 25 years of experience in fire service, Chief E.J. Hoyt was appointed to Chief by the Board of Fire Engineers for the Newington Fire Department on Nov. 6, after serving as the department’s acting chief since Aug. 23. Chief Hoyt was sworn in to his new role on Nov. 20.
He joined the department in September 2018 as Assistant Chief, and succeeds Chief Darin Sabine, who died on Saturday, Sept. 7, after a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.
For 17 years, Chief Hoyt served as a Lieutenant and AEMT for Dover Fire and Rescue, and also worked at the Myrtle Beach Fire Department for more than three years. He began his firefighting career at the Newington Fire Department as a call firefighter, EMT and driver/operator from 1993-1998.
“I am confident that my experiences have prepared me well to lead this department and manage and oversee its employees, services, trainings, equipment and overall operations,” Chief Hoyt said. “It is an incredible honor to be appointed to this role and to continue serving this community.”
As commander of the department, Chief Hoyt seeks to continue to move the department forward both operationally and technologically while maintaining a safe community and being fiscally responsible. As Chief he also plans to promote full transparency of the operation and open communication with the public.
Chief Hoyt served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabee’s Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 27 as an equipment operator from 1991-1999. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors Degree in Fire Administration at Columbia Southern University, and holds an Associate of Fire Science Degree from Lakes Region Community College.
He is additionally an NREMT– Advanced Emergency Medical Technician; State Certified Fire Instructor I, II and III; Fire Officer I and II; Fire Fighter I and II; Fire Inspector I and II; Hazardous Materials Operations and Technician Level, trained in NIMS Incident Command System 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800; and holds a New Hampshire CDL Driver’s License with air brakes and tank endorsement.
