Rochester’s McClelland Elementary School Hosts Education Celebration Night
ROCHESTER — Principal Michelle McAlister is pleased to announce that the McClelland School hosted its Education Celebration Night last week.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, McClelland students and their families took part in a variety of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) based activities after school. Participants had a chance to explore a wide range of fields of study, including civil, mechanical, aerospace, computer and electrical engineering.
Students also had the opportunity to enter to win a variety of raffle prizes and games that promote learning.
The event was designed as hands-on way for students to explore and build upon their interest in STEM topics while having fun. McClelland teachers organized the event with the help of volunteers from the Future Educators of America club at Spaulding High School, as well as engineering students from the University of New Hampshire’s Tau Beta Pi organization.
Activities included creating Incredible Hulk’s with squishy circuits, battery packs, Play-Doh and LED bulbs, building containers to help super heroes get from the top of a building to the street using a zip line, and saving the earth by building a new shield for Captain America capable of protecting the planet from an asteroid strike.
“This night was such a fun way for our students to engage with STEM activities and enjoy learning in a relaxing atmosphere,” Principal McAlister said. “I’m so grateful for the work of everyone who helped put this evening together.”
More than 100 students attended the event, which was made possible by the McClelland PTA.
