Medfield High School Group Volunteers at Cradles to Crayons Warehouse

MEDFIELD — Superintendent Jeffrey Marsden is pleased to share that the Medfield High School Cradles to Crayons Club recently volunteered their time processing donations for local kids in need.

The group sent 12 members to the Boston Cradles to Crayons on Saturday, Nov. 9 to volunteer in the warehouse. The students helped quality-check items and sort and package donations to be distributed to the children in greater Boston and across the Commonwealth that are served by the organization.

The students sorted and packaged donated items such as children’s clothing, shoes, winter accessories, books, arts and crafts and school supplies, toys and baby supplies. In the time they were there, the Medfield group was able to work on donations at their station that will serve 166 kids. In total that day, the warehouse worked on donations that will go to more than 1,000 kids.

“We’re very proud of this group for getting out into the community and spending a few hours of their free time volunteering,” Superintendent Marsden said. “It’s great to see them take initiative to help out a local cause and make a difference in the community.”

Cradles to Crayons is a national organization that provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items to thrive at home, at school and at play. The organization collects children’s items through community drives and donations, which are then processed and packaged by volunteers before being distributed to local children.

The MHS Cradles to Crayons Club has existed for over five years and spends several days volunteering at the warehouse each year. In addition, the club spearheads district-wide pajama and other clothing drives yearly.

The club is planning another volunteer trip to the warehouse later this school year.
