King Philip Regional School District Receives ‘Stop the Bleed’ Kit Donations from State Rep. Shawn Dooley
School Staff Recently Underwent Training to Use Kits
NORFOLK — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to announce that State Representative Shawn Dooley generously donated several “Stop the Bleed” kits to the King Philip Regional School District.
KP recently welcomed State Rep. Dooley to host two training sessions for faculty and staff with the new “Stop the Bleed” kits. The training sessions were held on Nov. 12 and Oct. 29 at King Philip Regional High School.
Each training session was led by nurse practitioners and trauma surgeons from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital. The training sessions organized by State Rep. Dooley focused on equipping the staff with the necessary skills needed to prevent possible deaths caused from bleeding out.
According to the American College of Surgeons, uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States with 20 percent of those bleeding to death potentially being able to survive if timely care was administered.
“We appreciate State Rep. Dooley’s support and contributions to our school district,” said Superintendent Zinni. “Rep. Dooley has helped equip our district with life-saving tools and training for emergency situations that may arise. For that, we are extremely thankful.”
State Rep. Dooley said, “The simple truth of the matter is, by instituting this program, lives will be saved. Whether it is from a car accident, a simple fall, a sports-related injury or a routine workplace accident, one never knows when these skills will be needed. To couple the training with the resources ensures the best possible outcome when that instance arises. I donated the kits and coordinated the trainings for the schools because I am believer in their necessity, and I believe our success here will help demonstrate that this is easy and practical to deploy state wide.”
State Rep. Dooley, who is also an on-call firefighter and EMT in Plainville and has had first-hand experience with these skills, also donated kits to each of the schools in Norfolk, Plainville, Wrentham, and Millis.
