Spaulding High School to Set Aside Time for Seniors to Apply to College

ROCHESTER — Superintendent Kyle Repucci is pleased to announce that Spaulding High School will participate in a statewide initiative to encourage students to apply to college.

WHEN:

Tuesday, Nov. 19

WHERE:

Spaulding High School

WHAT:

Next week, Spaulding High School will take part in the “I Am College Bound/I Applied” initiative, which is designed to increase the amount of New Hampshire high school seniors submitting college applications.

During the event, Spaulding seniors will have the chance to prepare and submit at least one college application with the assistance of school counselors and admissions representatives from various colleges and universities throughout the state.

The campaign, which is open to all high school seniors at participating high schools, provides additional assistance and encouragement to students who may be the first in their family to attend college, low-income students, and others who may be unfamiliar with the college application process. To further facilitate their efforts, application fees for all New Hampshire colleges and universities — public and private — will be waived for Spaulding students on Nov. 19.

Spaulding is one of 49 public high schools across New Hampshire participating in the program in the month of November, which has been designated as College Application Month.  Since 2014, over 4,850 New Hampshire high school seniors have submitted over 11,500 college applications through I Am College Bound/I Applied program.

“We’re so glad to be able to provide students with time in school to sit down with their counselors and college admissions professionals and not only learn more about college, but actually take part in the application process,” Superintendent Repucci said. “We want our students to be able to explore every avenue open to them after graduation, and this is a great way to provide them with the resources they need to do just that.”

The program is part of a nationwide initiative coordinated by ACT’s Center for Equity in Learning.  In New Hampshire, the program is supported by the New Hampshire Department of Education, The NHHEAF Network Organizations, the New Hampshire Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the New Hampshire School Counselor Association, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and the colleges and universities of the N.H. College & University Council.
