Weymouth High School Students to Gain Budgeting Experience During Annual Credit For Life Fair
WEYMOUTH — Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple is pleased to announce that Weymouth High School students will soon be learning about budgeting and financial responsibility as part of a Credit For Life fair at the Weymouth-Braintree Elks Lodge, 1197 Washington St., Weymouth.
The fair, which is open to all Weymouth High School seniors, will take place Thursday, Nov. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Credit For Life fairs are designed to teach students about finances and money management that they can use when they are adults. Students visit a variety of booths representing line items on a budget and learn about different cost-of-living challenges.
The fairs are held at high schools across the South Shore, and have been offered to students in Weymouth for the past eight years.
“This fair provides an opportunity for students to have real-world experiences with budgets and costs of living,” Superintendent Curtis-Whipple said. “Students find it to be a valuable learning experience as they prepare to leave high school and enter the next phases of their lives.”
Multiple local banks partner with the Weymouth Public Schools for the fair, including South Shore Bank, Equitable Bank and Coastal Heritage Bank. The banks reach out to the businesses in the community and work the booths that students visit during the fair.
“This event is a true community collaboration that demonstrates how business and education can work together to provide real world experiences for youth,” Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services and Support Mary Ann Bryan said. “We have had strong turnout in the past and hope many seniors take advantage of the event again this year.”
