Middleborough Residents Encouraged to Participate in Upcoming Citizens Police Academy

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Chief Joseph Perkins is pleased to announce that the Middleborough Police Department will be holding a Citizens Police Academy starting early next year and residents can sign up now to participate.

Classes are scheduled to begin on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, and will run weekly on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. The academy will run for 10 weeks.

“The Citizens Police Academy is a chance for interested residents to see what it is their police department does on a daily basis,” Chief Perkins said. “Both residents and officers benefit from getting to know each other in the type of positive environment that this academy provides.”

The Citizens Police Academy is offered free of charge to Middleborough residents.

As part of the academy, attendees will be instructed by MPD officers on topics such as motor vehicle law, search and seizures, applied patrol procedures, investigations and other law enforcement issues. Attendees will be offered a chance to obtain a firearms safety certificate and become CPR certified.

After completing the class, graduating residents will be offered a four-hour ride-along with a member of the Middleborough Police Department.

The maximum class size for the academy will be approximately 30 students.

Any resident interested in participating can obtain an application at the Middleborough Police Station, located at 350 Wood St.
