Tyngsborough Police Seeking Applicants for Reserve Officer Openings, Future Full-Time Positions
TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard Howe is pleased to announce that the Tyngsborough Police Department is seeking applicants for future full-time officer positions, as well as currently open reserve/intermittent officer positions.
Both full-time and reserve/intermittent officers are responsible for helping the department fulfill its mission of providing outstanding service to the Tyngsborough community. Officer duties include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehending offenders and participating in subsequent court proceedings.
- Reducing opportunities for the commission of some crimes through directed patrols and other crime prevention measures.
- Aiding individuals who are in danger of physical harm.
- Protecting Constitutional guarantees.
- Facilitating the smooth movement of people and vehicles.
- Identifying issues that carry potentially serious law enforcement or governmental concerns.
- Creating and maintaining security in the community.
- Promoting and preserving civil order.
- Providing other services on an emergency basis.
To qualify, applicants should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent degree, as well as the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A Firearms License. Applicants should also be 21 years old upon beginning their role, and should also be U.S. citizens by birth or naturalization and possess a valid driver’s license.
Preference will be given to candidates who have earned an associate’s degree or above in criminal justice or a related field, and/or have accrued a minimum of three years of military experience who have been honorably discharged. Graduates of any full-time police academy certified by the Massachusetts Police Training Council will also be given preference.
The Tyngsborough Police Department does not participate in the civil service system, and candidates who apply will be required to pass a thorough background investigation, a physical health examination, a psychological examination and a Physical Abilities Test.
