Bedford, N.H. Police to Host Avoid, Deny, Defend Active Shooter Response Class

BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John J. Bryfonski is pleased to share that the Bedford Police Department, in coordination with the Bedford Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), will be offering the Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event (CRASE) Avoid, Deny, Defend class later this month.

WHEN:

Thursday, Oct. 24 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Bedford Safety Complex training room, 55 Constitution Dr.

WHAT:

As a result of increased public awareness of mass shooting events, Bedford Police encourage citizens to know what they can do to protect themselves and reduce the dangers faced during this type of event.

CRASE training is meant to prepare civilians for the possibility that they could be targeted in a violent intruder event, giving them knowledge to help save their own lives and the lives of others in the crucial minutes before law enforcement arrives. The Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy has been developed as an easy-to-remember method for individuals to follow. It is based on the idea that hiding isn’t a very effective strategy.

“Though we hope our residents never have to use what they learn in this class, the training will give people knowledge and options to protect themselves in a situation where a person poses imminent harm,” Chief Bryfonski.

Bedford Police Operations Support Commander Lt. Michael Bernard will be presenting the class.

The class is being sponsored by the Bedford Police Department in coordination with the Bedford CERT and is open to all Bedford residents.

Seats are limited and residents interested in attending are asked to RSVP to [email protected]
