Methuen Police Investigating Following Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
METHUEN — Chief Joseph Solomon and Mayor James Jajuga report that the Methuen Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Jackson Street Monday night.
At 8:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, Methuen Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of 253 Jackson St. for a report that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. First responding officers and EMTs provided aid at the scene, but the victim, Timothy Lafferty, age 57, of Methuen, succumbed to his injuries.
Methuen Police immediately launched an investigation, through which they determined that a vehicle had struck Lafferty before driving away from the scene.
The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) responded to the scene and identified several pieces of evidence, while Methuen Police were notified of a potential suspect vehicle at a nearby residence.
A sedan with front end damage was seized by police as part of the ongoing investigation, and the Methuen Police Patrol and Criminal Investigations Bureau is actively working to identify the individual who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by Methuen and Massachusetts State Police. Anyone who believes they may have information about the incident is asked to contact the Methuen Police Department at 978-983-8698.
