Whittier Administrators Announce that Individual Behind Snapchat Threats has been Identified
HAVERHILL — Superintendent Maureen Lynch reports that Haverhill Police have identified the individual behind two recent Snapchat threats against Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.
Whittier administrators began working with the Haverhill Police Department after a student reported receiving a threatening message via Snapchat on Friday. In the message, an anonymous person threatened to commit a violent act at the school on Saturday, although no school activities were scheduled that day. Haverhill Police were made aware of a second Snapchat threatening a violent act against the school at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Monday. The second message was not sent to the same student.
Out of an abundance of caution, police had an increased presence at Whittier on Monday morning, and through an investigation, police identified a female student who was allegedly behind the Snapchat threats.
Administrators were notified at approximately 10:30 a.m. of the sender’s identity. The matter has been referred to Haverhill police, and will be addressed by administrators according to the school’s code of conduct.
“Thankfully, this situation was resolved swiftly by our local police department,” Superintendent Lynch. “There is no threat to our school community. I’d like to thank the Haverhill Police Department for their assistance, as well as students, staff, faculty, parents and guardians for their patience and cooperation over the last few days.”
Although there is no threat to students, staff or faculty at this time, there will be an increased police presence at Whittier Monday afternoon as well.
