Hull High School Gym Flooded From Burst Water Pipe
HULL — Superintendent Michael Devine reports that a broken water pipe flooded the gymnasium at Hull High School over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, Sept. 29, a coach arrived at the gym to conduct a practice. When the coach entered the building, the entire gym floor, the girls locker room and a storage room had approximately two inches of water on the floor.
The Hull Police and Fire Departments were called to the school and the electricity was shut off to the gym area as a precaution.
The flood was caused by a gasket in a water pipe that burst sometime over the weekend.
A commercial cleaning company was hired and has drained the water from the floor. Multiple fans will be blowing in the gym for the next few days at the recommendation of the cleaning company.
The gym will remain closed until it has been determined that the wooden floor is safe for use by students.
“Thankfully this situation didn’t happen while anyone was using the gym,” Superintendent Devine said. “We are in the process of going through our insurance company to determine the extent of the damage. We are hopeful that everything will be back to normal before the start of the basketball season in late-November.”
As of right now, only physical education classes will be impacted by the temporary unavailability of the gym.
