TOMORROW Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. — Spots still available!
WHERE:
Starts and ends at:
95 Essex St., Whitman Veterans of Foreign Wars, Whitman, MA
WHAT:
The LEO Support Foundation is a Massachusetts-based non-profit that raises money to purchase tourniquets and quick-clot gauze for police officers throughout the state. They also recently started focusing their resources on first responder suicide prevention.
“Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting non-profit organizations that provide support to first responders who are dealing with depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and/or substance abuse,” said Co-Founder Michael Best. “In addition, the LEO Support Foundation hopes to grow this event in the future and have a means by which to support the families of first responders who have lost a loved one to suicide.”
The race is open to adults and children. There will be awards for the top man and top woman in the run and ruck divisions. In addition, the top male fundraiser and top female fundraiser in the over 18 and under 18 categories, respectively, will earn awards of their own.
Check-In/Bib Pick-Up begins at 8 a.m. and closes at 9:45 a.m.
The ruck will begin promptly at 10 a.m., followed by the run/walk at 10:10 a.m.
Ruck requirements: If you weigh over 150 pounds your ruck must weigh a minimum of 40 pounds. If you weigh less than 150 pounds your ruck must weigh a minimum of 30 pounds.
Following the event there will be an awards ceremony and music, food and drinks.
The cost to walk, run or ruck is $50 for anyone age 16 or older. The cost for anyone age 15 or younger is $15. In addition, anyone can sign-up as a “virtual runner” for $15.

“We are hoping to use this race to bring awareness to the issue of first responder suicides,” said Mahoney, who is a Rockport Police officer. “Suicide among our first responders is far too prevalent and our goal is to shine a light on this issue and bring it to people’s attention in the hopes of saving future lives.”
About the LEO Support Foundation
The LEO Support Foundation LTD is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and our mission is to raise funds to purchase tourniquets and quick clot gauze for police officers and to raise awareness about first responder suicide prevention.
These important medical supplies are often not considered standard issue equipment and the cost per officer is nearly $100 to outfit them with these items. To date we have raised funds and donated to over 200 police officers in Massachusetts.
