Bridgewater Police Respond After Student Locates Shell Casing
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department responded after an empty shell casing was located at the Williams Intermediate School Monday.
Police do not believe there is any active threat or danger to the school.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, Bridgewater Police responded to the school, 200 South St., after the school resource officer reported that a seventh grade student found an empty 9 mm shell casing in a third floor hallway.
Out of an abundance of caution, students and faculty were temporarily asked to shelter in place while three K-9s from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department conducted a search of the building. No additional casings or weapons were located.
Students were dismissed at the regular time and in normal fashion, with an increased police presence on site. Parents were notified of the incident yesterday by school officials.
“We take reports like this one very seriously, but we are confident that there was never any danger to students and that the school is safe and secure,” Chief Delmonte said. “This student did the right thing by immediately reporting the incident to school staff, and I’m grateful that our school resource officer was on site and could respond immediately.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department.
