Stoneham Police Charge Man Following Upskirting Incident
STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly filmed upskirt images of a teenager earlier this summer.
JEFFREY EVANGELISTA, AGE 53, OF STONEHAM was arrested this morning and charged with Secret Sexual Surveillance.
On Saturday, June 6, the mother of the victim in this case visited the Stoneham Police Department to report the incident, which occurred earlier that day at The Paper Store, 99 Main St., Stoneham.
On that date, a male suspect, later identified as EVANGELISTA followed the 17-year-old female victim and a younger male witness around the store. After appearing to intentionally drop an item, he positioned the cooler bag he was carrying near the victim’s feet in a position that enabled him to record a video up her dress.
Through a subsequent investigation, which included collaborative work with the Lynnfield Police Department as it investigated a similar incident, Stoneham Police identified EVANGELISTA as the suspect in the June 6 incident in their community.
Police also recovered images from EVANGELISTA’S phone that link him to the June 6 incident.
“This was an excellent investigative effort by our officers, aided by the close cooperation of the Lynnfield Police Department, that led to today’s arrest,” Chief McIntyre. “I am grateful for the thorough work of our detective division.”
Stoneham Police unsuccessfully attempted to locate EVANGELISTA at his home last week, however he arrived at the Stoneham Police Department’s headquarters this morning and was taken into custody.
He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Woburn District Court.
