Kearsarge Regional School District to Host School Climate and Culture Parent Nights

NEW LONDON– Superintendent Winfried Feneberg is pleased to share that each school in the district will host a School Climate and Culture Parent Night this fall.

Kearsarge Regional High School Climate and Culture Parent Night

When:

Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where:

Kearsarge Regional High School, 457 North Road, North Sutton

Kearsarge Regional Middle School Climate and Culture Parent Night

When:

Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where:

Kearsarge Regional Middle School, 32 Gile Pond Road, North Sutton

Note: School Climate and Culture Parent Night events will be held at each elementary school in the district this October, and event dates will be announced by the district at a later date.

What:

At each School Climate and Culture Parent Night this fall, a team of students and a team of teachers and administrators will share the results of their school climate and culture research.

Beginning in January, each school in the district began working with the Center for School Climate and Learning, an organization that works with schools across the country to improve school climate and culture. A team of students and a team of teachers and administrators was formed at each school to examine its climate and culture. Students, staff and parents also completed surveys that assessed views on school safety, discipline and student support systems, teacher/student relationships, peer relationships, teaching and learning, student engagement and student voice.

“We strive for each and every student to feel comfortable, accepted, included, supported and engaged at school, and it is our goal as a district to work together to create those environments and improve our culture and climate,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “I’d like to thank the Center for School Climate and Learning, as well as our students and staff for all of their hard work throughout this process.”

After the surveys were completed last school year, the teams of students and staff at each school analyzed the data and crafted goals for areas of improvement. This fall, those teams have begun planning actions each school can take to improve climate and culture based on that data.

Teams will present their goals to parents at each meeting, and parents will also be asked to share their goals for the district.

After the School Climate and Culture Parent Nights, all of the student and staff teams at each school will put in place action plans to address key areas of need identified in their goals. The climate and culture survey will then be re-issued next spring to students and staff to assess the efficacy of that work.
