Berkley Fire Department Extinguishes Fire in Basement of Home
BERKLEY — Chief Scott Fournier reports that the Berkley Fire Department extinguished a fire in the basement of a home early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 3 a.m., the Berkley Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting smoke inside of 21 County St.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the basement of the home and went inside to begin extinguishing the fire.
All of the occupants were able to safely make it out of the home. However, three dogs needed to be rescued by firefighters and were safely take out of the house.
Mutual aid was provided by the Dighton, Raynham and Lakeville fire departments.
The fire was quickly extinguished and was confined to the finished basement.
A Berkley firefighter was transported to the hospital with an injury that is not believed to be life threatening.
The residents were displaced as a result of the fire and were given assistance by the Berkley Firefighters Association.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Chief Fournier would like to commend the quick actions of the responding firefighters in ensuring that all residents and pets made it safely out of the home and for putting out the fire before it could spread elsewhere in the home.
