Acton Fire Department Responds after Sprinkler Activates at Donelan’s Supermarket
No Fire or Major Damage to Store, but Bakery Portion of Store will likely be Closed until at least Tuesday
Update 7:12 p.m. — The bakery has re-opened for business.
ACTON — Chief Robert Hart reports that the Acton Fire Department responded Friday after single sprinkler head activated in the bakery of a local supermarket.
Firefighters responded to Donelan’s Supermarket, located at 248 Great Road at approximately 10 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival, they found water coming from one of the sprinklers above an oven in the bakery.
No fire or other dangerous situation was found inside the building. The sprinkler system was shut down, and a sprinkler contractor responded to the store to begin immediate repairs.
There was no damage to the building, but crews were cleaning up the water from the sprinkler and removing products that sustained water damage.
The supermarket was closed for several hours, but Acton’s public health inspector allowed the market, with the exception of the bakery, to re-open around 2 p.m. The bakery will likely be closed through at least Tuesday.
“We want our residents who may be shopping for the holiday weekend to be aware of this incident so that they can plan their food shopping accordingly,” Chief Hart said. “Thankfully, the damage was limited primarily to some of the baked goods, and we are hopeful that crews will affect repairs, and the shop will be allowed to re-open later today.”
