*UPDATED*

Raynham Police Alert Residents of Changes to Upcoming Route 44, Route 24 Road Closures

Closures will now be from Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. to Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 5 a.m.

Note: This version updates the dates and time of the roadwork due to inclement weather.

RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan would like to share a new message from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) regarding the upcoming scheduled closure of Route 44 and Route 24 in Raynham this week for a bridge replacement project:

MassDOT’s contractor, SPS New England, has rescheduled the traffic management measures outlined below due to the weather forecast and subcontractor availability.

The new bridge deck placement will now take place from 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The work was previously scheduled for Wednesday, August 28. During the overnight closures single lanes will be closed and re-opened as deck placement progresses across the bridge and rolling roadblocks will be implemented throughout the night on Route 24. If weather requires postponement, this work will take place the following night, September 4.

Beginning at 9 p.m., the closures will include the Route 44 westbound to Route 24 southbound and Route 44 eastbound to Route 24 northbound on-ramps. Detours will be in place during the on-ramp closures and details are below.

Rolling roadblocks will be used to allow the contractor to perform the work. For the rolling roadblocks, State Police will travel at reduced speeds to slow the traffic flow, so the contractor can place the bridge deck above Route 24. Rolling roadblocks will be limited to 20 minutes maximum duration.

The detour routes are listed below, and maps can be viewed at the links:

Route 44 Westbound to Route 24 Southbound Detour Route

While the ramp is closed, westbound Route 44 vehicular traffic wishing to reach Route 24 southbound will be detoured using town roadways. Signage will be in place directing vehicles to use the following route (see map):

  • Continue on Route 44 westbound past the exit. Take a right to travel onto South Street West. Follow South Street West and take a left onto Route 104. Take a left from Route 104 onto Route 44 eastbound. Take a right onto the on-ramp to Route 24 southbound.

Route 44 Eastbound to Route 24 Northbound Detour Route

While the ramp is closed, eastbound Route 44 vehicular traffic wishing to reach Route 24 northbound will be detoured using town roadways. Signage will be in place directing vehicles to use the following route (see map):

  • Continue onto Route 44 eastbound and take a right on Paramount Drive. Continue on Paramount Drive and take a left onto Route 44 westbound. Take the next right onto the on-ramp to Route 24 northbound.

The schedule for this major infrastructure project is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

Visit the project website, www.mass.gov/route44over24 for more information.
