Littleton Police Charge Man With OUI Following Crash

LITTLETON — Chief Matthew Pinard reports that a man was issued a criminal summons following a van crash Sunday night.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, at 11:18 p.m., Littleton Police were dispatched to New Oriental Market, 476 King St., for a report of a vehicle crash into a building. Upon arrival, officers observed that a shed attached to the building had been destroyed by a white cargo van, and also observed a man lying on the ground near the van after it came to rest near the woods.

The man was being assessed by an off-duty firefighter when officers arrived. Police spoke with the driver and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Officers also observed a bottle of Sea Ice vodka on the ground near where the driver was found.

Through an initial investigation, Littleton Police determined that the van was driving down Goldsmith Street at a high rate of speed when it ran a stop sign, drove through the intersection and struck the shed. Officers observed skid marks approaching the shed.

The driver, a 21-YEAR-OLD MALE, OF STOW, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As a result of the crash, he will be issued a criminal summons on charges of:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Operating to Endanger
  • Failure to Stop/Stop Sign

“This crash was the direct result of someone being reckless and irresponsible by drinking before getting behind the wheel,” Chief Pinard said. “Fortunately, nobody was inside or near the building when it occurred, preventing any innocent bystanders from being hurt.”
