Mother of Parkland School Shooting Victim to Speak at Ipswich Golf Tournament Today

Annual Officer Harold L. Vitale Memorial Golf Tournament Held Monday

Media note: Lori Alhadeff will be available for local TV, radio and print interviews at 2 p.m. today and will discuss Sunday’s deadly shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.

IPSWICH — The annual Officer Harold L. Vitale Memorial Golf Tournament will be held today at Ipswich Country Club and will feature guest speaker Lori Alhadeff, the mother of 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff, who was killed in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on Feb. 14, 2018.

WHEN:

Media availability at 2 p.m. today

WHERE:

Ipswich Country Club, 148 Country Club Way, Ipswich

WHO:

  • Lori Alhadeff
  • Officer Harold L. Vitale Memorial Fund Executive Director Les Vitale
  • Tournament sponsor, In Force Technology, CEO Brandon Flanagan

WHAT:

Proceeds of the golf tournament will go toward the Officer Harold L. Vitale Memorial Fund. The nonprofit was founded in 1992 in honor of former Saugus Police Officer Vitale, who was killed in the line of duty in 1985 at the age of 42.

The golf tournament is the memorial fund’s largest fundraising effort of the year and has been a sellout event since 1995.

Each year, a special guest speaker is invited to speak to those who attend the golf tournament. This year, the guest speaker is Alhadeff.

Alhadeff has been using her grief as a means to advocate for change in the wake of her daughter’s death. She will be speaking about her experiences to those in attendance and will also talk about the tragedies that occurred yesterday in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio.

In the month’s following her daughter’s death last year, Alhadeff reached out to In Force Technology CEO Brandon Flanagan to discuss solutions that will help save lives during an armed intruder incident at a school. Through their relationship, and through Flanagan’s personal relationship with the Vitale family, Flanagan was able to assist in having Alhadeff come speak at the golf tournament today.
