Classes in Advanced Manufacturing, Electrical, Plumbing and Welding Now Available
DANVERS – Superintendent Heidi Riccio is pleased to announce that Essex Tech has expanded its NightHawks Adult Education Program offerings to include additional industry training courses in advanced manufacturing, electrical, plumbing and welding.
The added classes reflect industry needs, where employers are in need for skilled workers in these fields.
“There is a significant need for trained employees in each of these fields, and these classes will provide a great opportunity for adults to get the education and experience required to pursue careers in these viable, thriving industries,” Superintendent Riccio said. “We’re excited to offer these courses, and to continue to expand the programming we have available for our adult students.”
The new industry training classes beginning this fall include Advanced Manufacturing Basic Level Skills, Advanced Manufacturing Mid Level Skills, Welding 1: Oxy Cutting and Stick Welding, Plumbing Tier 1 and Journeyman License Series Introductory Course.
Advanced Manufacturing Basic Level Skills
The basic level skills course in advanced manufacturing at Essex Tech will teach students the basics of manual machining, multi-axis CNC programming, setup and operation. Adults that enroll in the class will be trained in the latest technology, blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, industry math, metrology, SolidWorks and learn the layout process, the setup and procedures necessary to operate equipment including CNC lathes, G-Coding, and CNC milling and turning machines.
The course also provides students with an opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials including NIMS and OSHA, as well as resume preparation and job placement assistance.
Tuition for the 110-hour training program is $1,500. The class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning on Sept. 16 and finishing Dec. 21.
Advanced Manufacturing Mid Level Skills
Students that take this class are required to have completed the basic skills training class or be currently employed in the field of advanced manufacturing. The course will teach students multi axis advanced CNC operations, computer aided machining, SolidWorks, advanced math for machining and CNC machine tuning. The course will also include career skills training and the opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials.
Tuition for this 110-hour training program is $1,500. The class will begin Sept. 16 and end on Dec. 21, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students in the class will be expected to complete some online coursework.
Plumbing Tier 1
The Plumbing Tier 1 course is intended for those looking to pursue a career in the plumbing field but have no previous training. The course, designed to prepare students to take the Massachusetts State Examination for the Journeyman Plumbing Licence, follows the Massachusetts State curriculum. New Plumbing Board regulations allow students into Tier 1 without becoming a registered apprentice, but in order to take Essex Tech’s Tier 2 course this winter and spring, students are recommended to submit their apprentice applications by Oct. 1.
Tuition for the course, which begins Sept. 9 and ends Jan. 18, is $870. The class will meet every Monday and Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m.
Welding 1: Oxy Cutting and Stick Welding
The Welding 1 course will teach students the basics of oxy-acetylene cutting and stick welding. Topics the course will cover include safety, basic terminology and techniques, and joints and positions. Students will also be trained to critique and troubleshoot their cuts and welds.
Students are required to bring safety glasses, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) gloves, a welding shield, work boots, jeans and a cotton shirt for every class.
Tuition for the course is $850, and classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. starting on Sept. 10 and ending Nov. 14. For an additional fee, students will have the opportunity to obtain an AWS D1.1 Certification at the end of the course.
600 1 Hour Journeyman License Series Introductory Course
This course is designed for students looking to become electricians, and will act as a jumping off point for those individuals just beginning their studies or with less than 150 certified hours of classroom code and theory instruction.
Electricians in the Commonwealth are required by the Massachusetts Electrical Board of Examiners to work for multiple years in the electrical industry and complete 600 hours of classroom instruction focusing on National Electrical Codes and Electrical Theory.
Tuition for the course costs $600, and does not include the cost of the textbook. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. starting Sept. 16 and ending Dec. 20.
