Newport Police Arrest Two Men Following Boat Theft
NEWPORT, Vermont — Lt. Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested two individuals following the recovery of a stolen boat early yesterday morning.
KYLE LOWE, AGE 34, OF NEWPORT was arrested and given a citation for Operation Without Owner’s Consent and Resisting Arrest. Additionally, ROBERT INGRAM, AGE 35, OF NEWPORT was arrested and given a citation for Operation Without Owner’s Consent.
At 12:04 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, Newport Police responded to the East Side Restaurant on a report that two men — later identified as LOWE and INGRAM — had stolen a boat with an outboard motor from the adjoining marina.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness and subsequently located the boat in the middle of the lake before losing sight of it as they adjusted their position on shore, but relocated it a short time later.
Newport Police subsequently began coordinating with Border Patrol agents, who launched their own vessel after LOWE jumped into the water and began to swim while INGRAM rowed further away.
Upon reaching shore, LOWE was located underneath a gazebo and officers began to attempt to take him into custody, though he actively resisted throughout the process. Simultaneously, INGRAM was taken into custody after the stolen boat was intercepted by Border Patrol agents on the lake. Vermont State Police also assisted in the apprehension of the two suspects.
INGRAM was given a citation to appear in court at a later date and held overnight due to his alleged intoxication. LOWE was cited for his alleged violations and held on three unrelated arrest warrants.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
