Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Arrest Man for Residential Breaking and Entering
MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — Interim Chief Todd Fitzgerald reports that the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police department arrested a man early this morning after he allegedly broke into a home.
DANIEL E. MAHONEY JR., AGE 34, OF LOWELL is charged with:
- Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime with the Intent to Commit a Felony
- Wanton Defacement of Property
- Possession of a Class B Drug
At 6:10 a.m., Manchester-by-the-Sea Police received a 911 call from a resident on Highwood Road, who reported that their house had been broken into overnight.
Upon arrival to the home, Officers Jennifer Gilson and Ronald Ramos conducted a search of the residence and located a man, later identified as MAHONEY, in the basement. Police also found drugs on MAHONEY after conducting a search of his person.
The officers placed MAHONEY under arrest without incident. He was transported and booked at the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department and is expected to be arraigned at Salem District Court today.
The initial investigation indicates that the breaking and entering was an isolated incident and police do not believe there is any danger to the public.
“Officers Gilson and Ramos relied on their training and experience and did an excellent job quickly locating the suspect,” Chief Fitzgerald said. “As a reminder, residents are urged to always secure their homes by locking all access points when they’re not home and at night. If you see something suspicious, do not hesitate to report it to police.”
