Burlington Police and Fire Respond to Crash Involving MBTA Ride Bus
BURLINGTON — Police Chief Michael Kent and Fire Chief Steven Yetman report that the Burlington police and fire departments responded to a crash involving a Ride small passenger bus this morning.
At approximately 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, police and firefighters responded to Winn Street at Wyman Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, police and firefighters found that the crash had involved two vehicles, a Ride small passenger bus and a car.
Four patients, including both drivers and both passengers on the bus, were taken to local hospitals by Burlington Fire Ambulance, Woburn Fire Ambulance and two Armstrong Ambulances. None of the injuries those patients sustained are believed to be life-threatening.
The operator of the van is a 37-year-old Randolph man and the passengers are Woburn women ages 37 and 61. The operator of the car is 72-year-old man from Natick.
A preliminary police investigation indicates that the driver of the car crossed the double yellow line and struck the passenger bus. The car driver was the sole occupant of that vehicle.
The bus involved in the crash is registered to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Association (MBTA) as part of The Ride service. The Ride is a paratransit service of the MBTA designed for individuals with disabilities that prevent them from using traditional bus routes, subways, trolleys or other services.
Woburn Police and MBTA Transit Police also responded to the scene.
Traffic was temporarily detoured around Winn Street while police and firefighters responded to the scene. The road was reopened by 10:15 a.m.
This crash is under investigation by the Burlington Police Department.
