Newburyport Police Officer Dani Sinclair Promoted to Inspector
NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray is pleased to announce that Officer Dani Sinclair has been promoted to the rank of Inspector.
Inspector Sinclair stepped into her new role on July 1. She joins Inspector Chris McDonald and Inspector Mike Sugrue in the Detectives’ Office.
Inspector Sinclair first joined the Newburyport Police Department as a reserve officer in 2005, moving into a full-time position in 2006. Prior to joining the Newburyport Police Department, she served as a dispatcher and reserve police officer for the Newbury Police Department.
“Dani is a longstanding member of our department who is extremely deserving of this promotion,” Marshal Murray said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge, training and experience to the Detectives’ Division that will benefit the entire City of Newburyport.”
In her more than 10 years with the department, Inspector Sinclair has taken on a variety of roles, including Field Training Officer, Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) instructor, and CPR and first aid instructor. Additionally, Inspector Sinclair has been a lead investigator for the department’s Sexual Assault Unit since 2005, a role which she will continue as Inspector.
She has also developed an Essex County outreach program between police departments that allows members to share information about overdoses in their communities, including follow ups with residents.
Inspector Sinclair previously served on a local drug task force and was also the liaison for the city’s Help Every Lost Person to Safety (HELPS) program, which works with those prone to wandering or becoming lost.
She is a Triton Regional High School alumnus and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University.
