Two Essex Tech Students Compete in National SkillsUSA Competition
DANVERS — Superintendent Heidi Riccio is pleased to announce that two Essex Tech students competed in the national SkillsUSA competition.
Juniors Wesley Crowley, of Danvers, and Henry Jacques, of Gloucester, attended the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky from June 24-28 after earning gold medals at the state competition in April. Both placed 16th in their competitions at the national event.
Crowley, who is in the Information Technology Services program at Essex Tech, spent one month teaching himself the skills needed to earn a gold medal at the state level in the internetworking event. During the national event, he designed and troubleshooted corporate routing and switching configurations as part of the Information Technology competition. Crowley also holds certifications from CompTIA and Microsoft.
Jacques, who is in the Biotechnology program at Essex Tech, demonstrated triple z streaking (a form of bacterial culturing) as part of the the health sciences competition.
“This was a great opportunity or Wesley and Henry to represent Essex Tech, themselves and the work they’re doing every day in the classroom and shop,” Superintendent Riccio said. “To make it this far in SkillsUSA is a huge accomplishment, and it illustrates students’ commitment, creativity and deep understanding of their technical area of study.”
