Statement of SAU 16 Superintendent David Ryan Following Investigation into Standardized Testing Allegations Against Classroom Teacher

EXETER — Superintendent David Ryan issues the following statement regarding the conclusion of an investigation into allegations that a teacher at Newfields Elementary School instructed and coached students during the New Hampshire Statewide Assessment System (NH SAS) in English Language Arts.

“The school district has concluded its internal investigation into a report that a teacher at Newfields Elementary School had coached students during the New Hampshire SAS ELA exam.

“Based on the results of our investigation, we have concluded that there was some minor deviation from the required testing procedures. The teacher has been disciplined in accordance with the district’s progressive discipline policy and will be required to take mandatory retraining on the proper administration of standardized tests.

“Additionally, working closely with the New Hampshire Department of Education, all faculty and administration at the Newfields Elementary School will be retrained this coming school year on the proper administration of statewide standardized tests to ensure strict adherence to testing procedures in the future.”
