Cohasset Public Schools and Police Department Investigating Alleged Threat

COHASSET — Superintendent Louise L. Demas and Police Chief William P. Quigley report that the Cohasset Police Department and Cohasset Public Schools are currently investigating an alleged threat at Cohasset High School and Cohasset Middle School.

On Monday, June 17, it was reported that a Cohasset Middle or High school student had made threatening remarks about another minor. The minor and minor’s parents have been notified of the threat, as well as the other district’s School Resource Officer, who is monitoring the situation.

Additional material was discovered Monday night containing threats against one or more students at Cohasset High and Middle Schools. After an initial investigation on Monday evening, Cohasset Police were unable to definitively prove that the threat was unsubstantiated.

Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to cancel classes at the Middle and High schools on Tuesday.

Cohasset Police have continued investigating the threat overnight and today, and the Cohasset Public Schools are participating in and cooperating with the police investigation.

“This threat came to light late last night, and we were faced with a difficult decision to cancel classes at the end of the school year,” Superintendent Demas said. “Our students’ safety is of utmost importance, and we will be updating the school community as soon as more information becomes available. I wish to thank our students, parents and faculty for their patience and cooperation as we investigate this threat.”

The threat was not directed at Deer Hill or Joseph Osgood Elementary Schools, which are open for classes today. However, parents may notice a more viable police presence at all school buildings this week.
