Medway High School Celebrates Class of 2019
MEDWAY –Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to announce the graduation of 177 students from Medway High School.
On Sunday, June 2, graduates were celebrated and received their diplomas during a ceremony held in the Medway High School gymnasium.
At the Senior Day event on May 29 at Medway High School, 152 scholarships totaling over $100,000 were awarded to graduating seniors by local businesses, families, trusts organizations to support their post secondary endeavors.
Medway High School Class of 2019 President and Valedictorian Mark Martin Lannigan thanked his peers for their kindness and support at the graduation ceremony, and assured them that they are capable of great success.
“There is absolutely no doubt that the class of 2019 deserves all of the confidence in the world, not just because of the 177 incredible friends that I have sitting around me, but because we as a body have a future that is destined to be spectacular,” Lannigan said. “I have no doubt in my mind at all that every single individual sitting around me is going places, going to do great things, going to make something of themselves.”
Class Salutatorian Marie Ryan McCormick also spoke at the ceremony, and honors student essayist Emma Rose Charloff read an Honors Essay.
In a speech to the graduating class, Superintendent Armand Pires shared the story of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his struggle with polio, and encouraged seniors to persevere through whatever challenges come their way, as Roosevelt did.
“For each of you, as you prepare to take the next step, whether you’re dealing with a major life event as FDR did with polio, or managing the every day struggles and challenges of life, I encourage you to look to FDR’s story as a model,” Superintendent Pires said. “I encourage you to find your inner strength and persevere through the times of challenge. Find your grit and allow it to support you in the achievement of your long-term goals.”
