WRENTHAM — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet is pleased to announce that the town of Wrentham is holding a public forum next week on the proposed rezoning for the Route 1 corridor.

WHEN:

Thursday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

WHERE:

Wrentham Senior Center, 400 Taunton St.

WHAT:

The Town of Wrentham invites residents and members of the public to attend the first of several forums that will take place over the coming months about proposed rezoning for the Route 1 corridor. The Planning Board will also hold a public hearing on the proposed zoning changes late this summer.

Residents will be asked to vote on the zoning changes at the Fall Town Meeting in November.

A presentation will be given at the forum by Cathy McCabe, a specialist in strategic planning and economic development and principal of McCabe Enterprises, about the current zoning and it’s challenges, the process through which the proposed rezoning was developed and the benefits the zoning changes would offer. The forum will also include a working group session, light refreshments and opportunities for residents to share their thoughts, opinions, questions and concerns.

“We are looking forward to sharing the proposed rezoning with residents, and hearing their thoughts and questions,” Town Administrator Sweet said. “Rezoning this corridor is a major undertaking for our town and will have significant implications for years to come, and it’s an exciting opportunity for us all to shape the economic development of Wrentham.”

Today, there are seven zoning districts within the approximately two-mile stretch of Route 1 in Wrentham. The proposed zoning changes would replace those districts with three new ones designed to better support future development while preserving natural resources in the area. The plans also include traffic improvements.

The proposed new zoning would not impact current businesses or organizations operating in the area.

Town Administrator Sweet, Planning Director Rachel Benson, and other representatives from town boards and committees will be present at the forum.
