Raynham Fire Department Announces Four Promotions
RAYNHAM — Chief James T. Januse is pleased to announce the promotions of four members of the Raynham Fire Department, and the swearing in of a new firefighter at a ceremony last night.
Capt. Barrett Johnson was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, effective this July; Lt. Jeffrey Kelleher was promoted to the rank of Captain, effective this July; Firefighter Jason Karns who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in April; and Firefighter Brad Carr will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, effective this July.
A ceremony recognizing the promotions and recent graduation of Firefighter Trevor Chute from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) was held on Tuesday, June 11, at Town Hall.
“Capt. Johnson, Capt. Kelleher, Lt. Karns and Lt. Carr have worked incredibly hard to earn these promotions, and have each displayed a deep commitment to the safety and well being of our community,” Chief Januse said. “And Firefighter Chute put a tremendous amount of time and energy into his studies at the MFA. We are fortunate to have each one of these members of our department, and it was wonderful to recognize them all last night.”
Deputy Chief Barrett Johnson
Johnson began his career with the Raynham Fire Department as a call firefighter in 1995. He was hired full-time in 1998, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2012 and named Captain in 2017. He also serves as a paramedic for the department. As Deputy Chief, he will be responsible for assisting the chief with fire operations, fire prevention and administrative duties.
Capt. Jeffrey Kelleher
Kelleher also began his career with the Raynham Fire Department as a call firefighter in 1995. He was hired as a full-time firefighter for the department in 1998. In January 2017, he was named Acting Lieutenant and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant later that year. Capt. Kelleher is a paramedic and also holds various officer certifications. As a Captain, he will continue his role as the Group 2 shift commander.
Lt. Jason Karns
Karns began his career with the Raynham Fire Department as a call firefighter in July 2001. He was hired full time by the apartment in July 2002 and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant this April. Lt. Karns is the shift commander of the Raynham Fire Department’s Group 4 and holds various fire officer certifications, is a certified paramedic and holds an associate’s degree in fire science from American Public University.
Lt. Brad Carr
Firefighter Carr began his career with the Raynham Fire Department in September 1993 and was hired full time in July 1996. He will serve as the shift commander of the department’s Group 1 starting this July. Firefighter Carr is also a certified paramedic, holds various officer certifications and holds a bachelor’s degree in fire science from Columbia Southern University.
Firefighter Trevor Chute
Firefighter Chute was hired as a call firefighter for the Raynham Fire Department in January 2016, and was hired full-time in July 2017. He is a Raynham native, who served in the U.S. Navy between 2012-2016. He graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy this March, and is certified as a Firefighter I/II.
