Melrose Police to Undergo Active Shooter Training Next Week at Public School
Residents near Horace Mann School May Hear Loud Noises and See Increased Police Presence as Part of Training Scenario
MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle announces that the Melrose Police Department will participate in an active shooter training drill throughout next week. Part of the drill will be open to interested members of the news media.
The training will take place inside the Horace Mann School. Residents in the area may hear loud noises and bangs and see a number of police units in the area. Residents should know that this is only a training drill and that there is no danger. Only blank/training rounds and noise simulators will be used during the training.
The training scenario is meant to better prepare the Melrose Police Department for the unlikely yet extremely dangerous occurrence of an active shooter in the city.
