King Philip Educator Named United Regional Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year
WRENTHAM — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to share that Doug Fayle, a history teacher at King Philip Regional High School, has been named the 2019 United Regional Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year.
Fayle was recognized at the chamber’s annual Spotlight on Education Breakfast on Wednesday, May 29 at Lake Pearl on Creek Street. The annual breakfast recognizes students and educators from the 16 communities the chamber serves.
“Doug wants his students to succeed, and he works hard to engage them in the classroom,” King Philip Regional High School Principal Lisa C. Mobley said. “He’s also always willing to go the extra mile and volunteer his time to support student clubs and events. We are fortunate to have him here at King Philip.”
Fayle has worked at King Philip for 18 years, and today he teaches ninth grade United States history, 10th grade Advanced Placement United States history and 11th grade Advanced Placement modern world history. He was nominated for the award by Mindy Morin, the department head for the social sciences and a psychology teacher at King Philip Regional High, earlier this school year. Fayle mentored Morin when she first became a teacher at the school approximately 14 years ago.
“For nearly twenty years, Doug Fayle has been the unsung hero of King Philip,” Morin wrote in her nomination letter. “He was not only my mentor, but he has been the mentor to countless students throughout the past two decades….He is a man of dignity, humor, knowledge, and most importantly, love for his students’ success in both the study of history and in life.”
Fayle has a reputation as a teacher whose classroom is engaging and challenging for students, who, under his guidance, tackle complex projects and apply their knowledge of history to modern issues. He is also the founding faculty adviser for the Women’s Empowerment Club. He founded the club in 2016.
He also recently volunteered to lead the school’s Debate Club, and is known to volunteer his time to support the work of his students and colleagues.
Prior to his teaching career, Fayle served as a Marine for six years.
