For all other programs and departments that are housed in the Community Center, their temporary locations and move dates are as follows:
- Rockland Youth Commission offices – Rockland Town Hall, 242 Union St., Lower Level, Room G117 – Effective Date: June 6
- Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) – Rockland Town Hall, 242 Union St., Lower Level, Chaffee Conference Room, Room G104A – Effective Date: June 12
- Rockland Historical Commission – Rockland Town Hall, 242 Union St., Lower Level, Chaffee Conference Room, Room G104A – Effective Date: June 25
- Rockland Veteran’s Agent Office – Robert J. Nyman Senior Center, 317 Plain St. – Updated Hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Effective Date: June 3
Each office will be open for business during their normal operating hours on their respective move dates, unless otherwise noted.
“Our town officials have worked very hard over the past few weeks to find an appropriate temporary home for all of the programs in need and we are happy to announce where they will be going for the summer today,” Town Administrator Purcell said.
The Town plans to make repairs to the Community Center’s basement, first floor and second floor sprinkler system, after an assessment was done by a local contractor which showed that the sprinkler system was able to be repaired.
The project is currently out to bid with responses due on Friday, May 31, by noon. The contract award is expected to be made at the June 4 Board of Selectmen meeting.
The Community Center building will be closed beginning June 13 and repairs are expected to be undertaken between June 17 and Aug. 5. The basement and first and second floors of the building are expected to be reopened on Aug. 12, barring any setbacks in the repair work. The third floor will remain closed.
“Now that we have found summer locations for all of the Community Center programs, we have cleared a major hurdle in this ongoing process,” Assistant Town Administrator Constable said. “We also now have a clear timeline of when the work on the sprinkler system is expected to begin and end. If all goes according to plan, all programs will move back to the Community Center and resume normal operations before the end of August. We want to thank our residents for their patience and understanding as we have worked tirelessly to solve this issue in as timely a fashion as possible.”
