Raymond’s Lamprey River Elementary School Holds Memorial Day Ceremony
RAYMOND — Lamprey River Elementary School students recognized the men and women who have lost their lives serving our country during a Memorial Day ceremony.
On Friday, May 24, students in pre-school through fourth grade, along with faculty, staff and community members, gathered on the front lawn of LRES for a morning of activities centered on the country’s fallen heroes.
The 18th annual Memorial Day celebration featured students and staff dressed in patriotic colors, including American flag inspired hats and red, white and blue attire.
To start off the morning of events, attendees said the “Pledge of Allegiance” and sang the “Star Spangled Banner.” Each grade then performed a song they learned through their American history studies, which honored servicemen and women.
“I love sharing the kids’ enthusiasm for these songs with their families and the Raymond community,” music teacher Alison Lacasse said. “Each year the entire school gathers around the flag on the front lawn of LRES, and surrounded by family and community members, the students proudly share the songs that they have learned.”
Kindergarten students sang “Yankee Doodle” while first grade students wowed the crowd with “The Marines’ Hymn” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
Second grade students sang “The Caissons Go Rolling Along” and “This Land is Your Land,” and third grade students gave it their all for “Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder America” (with a solo by Olivia Larochelle).
Fourth grade students sang “Anchors Aweigh” and “50 Nifty United States.” Third and fourth grade students also brought out their recorders to play “Yankee Doodle” and “Taps,” respectively.
The event ended with the entire community singing Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”
“This event is one that the entire community looks forward to each year,” Principal Laura Yacek said. “It is a time when we all come together to remember those brave men and women no longer with us, who fought and sacrificed for our country.”
