Fairhaven Police Investigating Pedestrian Crash Involving Pickup Truck
FAIRHAVEN — Officer Marcy Haaland reports that the Fairhaven Police Department is investigating a pedestrian crash where an older man was injured and hospitalized Wednesday morning.
At approximately 9 a.m., Fairhaven Police responded to the intersection of Huttleston Avenue (Route 6) and Francis Street for a report of a man who was struck by a pickup truck.
Upon arrival, officers located an 84-year-old Fairhaven man who was injured from the collision.
The man was conscious and alert and was transported by ambulance to Fairhaven High School, where he was subsequently picked up by a medical helicopter and flown to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
The driver of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, an 80-year-old Fairhaven man, remained at the scene and was cooperative with police. Witnesses also stopped and spoke to officers on scene.
The initial investigation indicates that the victim had been walking across Huttleston Avenue, a four-lane road, and was nearly to the curb when he was struck by the pickup truck that was traveling eastbound.
The truck sustained damage to its hood and windshield. The driver of the truck was not injured.
A Fairhaven Police accident reconstruction officer was called to the scene to investigate and the incident remains under investigation.
