Rockland Police, Regional SWAT Team Resolve Standoff with Suspects
Chief John R. Llewellyn will brief the media at 7:15 p.m. tonight at the Rockland Police Station on Market Street.
ROCKLAND — Police Chief John Llewellyn reports that two suspects have surrendered after a brief standoff with police, including a regional SWAT Team.
The two suspects are in custody, and police have declared the scene “all-clear”.
This incident began at 3:30 p.m. as a reported person-to-person armed robbery on Howard Street in Rockland, where a firearm was allegedly shown. The suspect fled and was seen entering the third floor apartment of the Church Street three-family residence. The second suspect, a relative of the first, was believed to be already inside.
The regional MetroLEC SWAT Team was called to the scene at 57 Church St. in Rockland due to the unit’s advanced training and skills for these kinds of situations.
Police evacuated the first and second floors and sent an emergency notification to residents in the area that they should remain in their homes.
After the arrival of the SWAT team, the suspects quickly surrendered and exited the building without further incident.
Motorists and pedestrians are still strongly encouraged to avoid the area at this time.
This is breaking news.
