Attleboro Fire Department Completes Moving of Dispatch Center
ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott T. Lachance is pleased to share that the Attleboro Fire Department has successfully moved its dispatch center to the South Attleboro Fire Station.
Approximately two and a half years ago, the Attleboro Fire Department began the process of moving the dispatch center from the Union Street Fire station to its South Attleboro station.
The Union Street Fire station is more than 120 years old, and the former dispatch center was worn and too small to meet the needs of the department.
The department decided to move the dispatch center as it transitioned to using a civilian dispatch crew, and has now hired eight dispatch professionals who staff the center two at a time. Previously, the dispatch center was operated by one on-duty firefighter.
The South Attleboro Fire Station was built approximately 20 years ago, and the dispatch center there was initially designed to work as a backup call center. However, over the past two years, infrastructure has been added to the room to support the full dispatch operations of the Attleboro Fire Department.
The prior Union Street Station Dispatch center will be used as office space.
The department coordinated with the Massachusetts State 911 service and Verizon to keep the dispatch operation up and running as the center was moved to its new location.
The move was completed in late April.
“This has been a lengthy transition, and we’re happy to have successfully completed this move,” Chief Lachance said. “I am confident this new location will fully support our dispatch center’s operations and commitment to high quality service to our residents.”
