RAYMOND — Superintendent Tina McCoy is pleased to announce that a group of Raymond High School students placed first in a statewide financial literacy competition.

The New Hampshire Financial Capability Challenge, otherwise known as the FinLit300, is an educational tournament that tasks students with applying classroom-based financial education during a contest of knowledge and skills.

Topics at the competition are based on the Jump$tart National Standards and include spending and saving, credit and debt, employment and income, investing, risk management and insurance and financial decision making.

Raymond High School’s team included junior Timothy Berard and seniors Nicholas Brazeau, team captain Jackson Dyer, foreign exchange student William Guan, Jeff Rivard and Cameron Taber.

In the first part of the competition, high schools throughout the state completed an online test, with the top scoring teams then facing off in a live competition on April 30 at Grappone Conference Center in Concord. Raymond High School’s team has qualified for the live championship round 14 out of the past 15 years.

Raymond students joined Bow High School, Concord High School, The Founders Academy, Newfound Regional High School and Winnacunnet High School at the live event.

There, the team swept all four matches, winning the championship round against Bow High School 166-82.

“Students have worked hard all year to prepare for this competition and their perseverance paid off,” Principal Steve Woodward said. “They are extremely deserving of this honor, and their deep understanding of this topic will benefit them throughout their lives.”

The event is made possible by the New Hampshire Jump$tart Coalition.
