Rockland Fire Chief Invites Community to Attend Meeting on Future Impacts of Climate Change
ROCKLAND — Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Scott Duffey is pleased to announce that the Town of Rockland will hold a community meeting later this month to discuss with residents and business owners how climate change may impact the town’s future.
WHEN:
Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
WHERE:
Rockland Town Hall, 242 Union St.
WHAT:
The Town of Rockland was awarded a $28,000 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Planning Grant in 2018 from the State Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. The state awards this funding to cities and towns to assist them in identifying possible challenges they will face in coming years as a result of predicted climate change and to support communities as they create plans to mitigate the impacts of those concerns.
On April 11, the town and the Metropolian Area Planning Council partnered to hold a workshop with town board and committee members, volunteer citizens and local partners to identify how Rockland may be vulnerable to the impacts of predicted climate change.
At the May 16 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Grant meeting, a presentation will be given to the community with the findings of the April 11 workshop. A discussion will follow the presentation, and recommendations will be made to take preventative action to protect public health and safety, and to minimize impacts to the environment and local economy.
Residents are encouraged to attend the presentation, and to share their insights and concerns about climate change and the town’s future.
“This is an important conversation for our community to have, and I encourage any and all residents, organizations and groups invested in the Town of Rockland to attend and share your input,” Chief Duffey said.
