Somerset Police to Host Next Drug Take Back Event in June

SOMERSET — Following a successful drug take back day over the weekend, Chief George McNeil is pleased to announce that the Somerset Police Department will host another take back event next month.

The Somerset Police Department Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the police station located at 465 County St.

Drug take back events provide residents with an easy, accessible way to dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs. They also serve as an opportunity for law enforcement agencies to educate the public about the potential for abuse of medications. Studies suggest that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

All medications will be accepted the day of the event with the exception of liquids, needles or sharps.

On Saturday, April 27, the Somerset Police Department participated in National Drug Take Back Day in which 118 pounds of medication were collected and disposed of.

Anyone seeking information about the department’s upcoming take back event should call the Somerset PD at 508-679-2138.
