NORFOLK — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to announce that a group of King Philip Middle School students took first place in the Sharon Math and Science Tournament this weekend.

The Sharon Math and Science Tournament was held at Sharon Middle School on Saturday, April 27, and gave local middle school students the opportunity to compete against each other in STEM-based challenges. The tournament tested students individually and as teams. Students were also tasked with design challenges and lab demonstrations during the competition.

King Philip Middle School Students Dean Cardner, Eliot Davis, Lakshya Jain, Samarth Srinivasan and Ian Thompson formed a team with Masha Kireyev, a home-schooled student from Norfolk, for the competition. The six students named their team the “Axis and Alloys.”

It is the first year a team of students from outside Sharon Middle School has won the tournament.

“It’s wonderful that Sharon Public Schools offers this tournament for students to come together, compete and share their interest in math and science,” Superintendent Zinni said. “Congratulations to these students, who displayed remarkable knowledge and skills in math and science this weekend.”
