East Bridgewater Fire Extinguishes House Fire on Anna Drive
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished a house fire Thursday night.
An adult male resident was transported to a local hospital with smoke inhalation. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
At approximately 8:25 p.m., East Bridgewater firefighters responded to 189 Anna Drive for a report of a fire at a single-family split-level ranch home. Engine 1, Tower 1, Ambulance 3 and Chief Harhen responded to the scene, along with mutual aid from the Whitman Fire Department. Members of the East Bridgewater Police Department also responded to the scene to assist with traffic.
Upon arrival, firefighters came upon a fire on the first floor of the home inside the bathroom, with flames that had extended into the attic. The fire was quickly knocked down by Group 3, under the command of Lt. Philip Woolf.
The house sustained significant damage to the bathroom and attic, and smoke and water damage throughout. Chief Harhen estimates that there was approximately $100,000 worth of damage.
Prior to the arrival of firefighters, the family of five, including three children, were able to make it out of the home to safety. The family, along with their two dogs, was displaced and will be staying with relatives.
The initial investigation indicates that the fire originated in the first-floor bathroom of the home inside of a ceiling light/exhaust fan.
“I want to commend our firefighters for their efforts in quickly putting this fire out before it spread to the rest of the house,” Chief Harhen said. “I would also like to thank Whitman Fire and the East Bridgewater Police officers who came to the scene to assist.”
