Signup Now Closed for Holbrook Police 2019 Junior Police Academy
HOLBROOK — Chief William Smith is pleased to announce that the Holbrook Police Department’s Junior Police Academy 2019 class is now full and enrollment is closed.
The course, taught by Holbrook Police officers, teaches kids the core values of integrity and discipline in a structured environment that helps to build their self-esteem and further their understanding about who police officers are and what their jobs entail.
The academy is for students entering sixth and seventh grade, and will be held at the Holbrook Middle High School, 245 South Franklin St. from July 29 to August 2.
The program is offered through the department’s Community Outreach Program, which features various events and services throughout the year meant to strengthen ties with Holbrook residents.
During the junior academy, students will attend classroom sessions with lectures, demonstrations by police officers in the areas of law, drug awareness and first responder skills, as well as physical training sessions and field trips.
“It was great to see the academy fill up so quickly with so many enthusiastic young cadets,” Chief Smith said. “This is our second year running the program and we are thrilled to be able to build off the success of last year and look forward to the beginning of the academy in July.”
