A Statement from Rockland Interim Town Administrator James Purcell and Superintendent Alan Cron
ROCKLAND — Interim Town Administrator James Purcell and Superintendent Alan Cron seek to provide residents with the latest information regarding the McKinley Community Center building:
“We would like to provide the community with an update on the status of the Community Center building and the programs it houses.
“On Thursday, April 25, Rockland-based City Point Fire Protection Inc. conducted a thorough inspection of the sprinkler system in the Community Center, ahead of the original scheduled inspection that was planned for early next week. The company is currently in the process of drafting a report about the system and if it can be brought back up to code.
“We are hopeful that we will receive City Point Fire Protection’s initial report prior to Town Meeting on May 6 to help guide our decision making and are currently planning for all likely scenarios.
“Any possible work to repair the system would still leave the building shuttered for all or most of the summer. We are in the process of finalizing temporary homes for all of the programs and departments that are currently located in the Community Center and remain confident that we will do so well ahead of the June 13 deadline. We will issue detailed guidelines and handouts containing information on the new locations for each program as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
