Workshop to Support Medway Middle School Student’s Study of Shakespeare
MEDWAY –Reading Shakespeare for the first time is often a challenge, but students at Medway Middle School will get a helping hand at deciphering the Bard’s famous works this week.
On Thursday, April 25, seventh grade English Language Arts (ELA) students will participate in an interactive workshop by Shakesperience Productions, Inc., a nonprofit theater company, based out of Connecticut. The workshops will be held during ELA class times in the auditorium.
During the workshop, actors will help students familiarize themselves with the basics of reading and performing Shakespeare’s plays. Students will learn about literary devices and language as they explore the spoken word and act out famous scenes.
Students were given a packet prior to the workshop that includes excerpts from plays including “Hamlet,” “Macbeth,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and “As You Like It.”
The interactive workshop was generously funded by the Medway Middle School Parent Teacher Organization.
“We want students to understand that while Shakespeare’s works can be challenging, they can also be fun,” said Medway Middle School Principal Craig Juelis. “This workshop will give students the tools they need not only to comfortably read and understand Shakespeare’s works, but to enjoy these plays and appreciate their literary value.”
