Ipswich Police Invite Parents to “Hidden In Plain Sight” Drug Prevention Program
IPSWICH — Chief Paul A. Nikas announces that the Ipswich Police Department and Ipswich AWARE will host a “Hidden in Plain Sight” exhibit and parent information night next week.
The demonstration will be held on Wednesday, May 1, from 5-8 p.m. at the Ipswich YMCA, 110 County Road. It will include a mock teenager’s bedroom that parents and guardians will be able to tour under the guidance of an Ipswich Police officer.
The fake bedroom will have several items that could be used as drug paraphernalia, as well as hiding places for drugs, drug paraphernalia and alcohol. The program, created by Power to the Parent, helps parents to recognize potential signs that their teens could be using drugs or alcohol.
“This program will give parents in our community a hands-on look at the ways they can tell if their kids are concealing drugs or alcohol,” Chief Nikas said, “And it will equip them with the knowledge they need to protect their kids from these dangerous substances.”
The event was part of a joint effort by the Ipswich Police Department, Ipswich AWARE, Ipswich Public Schools and the Ipswich YMCA to prevent drug and alcohol use among students.
