King Philip Middle and High School Band Programs Win Big at Statewide Competition
NORFOLK — Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to announce the King Philip middle school and high school band, chorus and concert band programs took home several top honors at the recent Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Choral and Concert Festivals.
The statewide competitions were held on April 5-7 at various high schools across the state, including King Philip Regional High School.
In total, there were 178 ensembles, over 8,700 student musicians who participated in the Concert Festival and over 4,000 student musicians who took part in the Choral Festival.
The results for the King Philip ensembles were as follows:
- Middle School Chorus – Silver
- 7th Grade Band – Gold
- 8th Grade Band – Gold
- High School Chorus – Gold
- High School Concert Band – Gold
“What a fantastic showing by our band and chorus groups at both the middle school and high school,” Superintendent Zinni said. “Our music students work extremely hard throughout the year and it is really great to see them be recognized for their efforts. I would also like to commend our music directors and instructors for helping to guide and educate these talented young musicians and singers.”
MICCA encourages and supports the development of elementary, middle and high school performing ensembles. The competitions over last weekend also included marching band, solo and ensemble performances, all of which were judged by highly qualified adjudicators.
