Hull High School Students Participate in Credit for Life Fair
HULL — High school juniors and seniors recently took part in their school’s first Credit for Life Fair to learn about the importance of budgeting, credit and financial planning.
On April 5, juniors and seniors gathered in the gym to participate in a budget simulation activity. Each student received a profile based on their career interests that included their occupation, income and expenses. This is the first time Hull High School has held the event, after a teacher-led committee recognized the importance of the exercise and planned the activity.
Students then traveled around to different booths, run by volunteers from local businesses and organizations, which focused on different aspects of their mock life and their associated financial responsibilities.
The intent was to help students build a hands-on understanding of the real-world responsibilities that come with paying for housing, transportation, education, luxuries and other expenses.
“The Credit for Life Fair is a valuable opportunity for students to learn how to realistically save money, budget and deal with life’s unexpected expenses,” Principal Nicole Nosek said. “They were encouraged to ask the volunteers questions, seek information and learn from mistakes in an educational environment before entering the real world, where their decisions will carry more impact. This truly was a worthwhile and educational experience for students that will hopefully benefit their financial future.”
Principal Nosek wishes to thank the community volunteers who made the event possible: Best Chevrolet, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, DXL Clothing, Liberty Mutual, MassHire South Shore Career Center, MEFA-Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority, Rockland Trust, Stop & Shop, and William Raveis Real Estate/Mortgage. She would also like to thank Hull PTO for contributing to the Credit for Life Fair.
